Is it possible that Freud's theory of penis envy during the psychosexual stages of development is an early transgender postulation? Freud considered a woman's realization that she does not have a penis to be a defining moment in a series of transitions toward a mature female sexuality and gender identity. So, is it possible that Freud [unintentionally] theorized an early transgender theory?
